5.1 Analysis software

Three software packages were used in the analysis of the current discussion. These were the pibeta analyzer, danno3, and CERNLIB.

The pibeta analyzer was written in the spring of 1997 and was integrated with the MIDAS data acquisition system described in section 3.4.2. The analyzer was used for replaying the 1997 data and creating a binary file in the format used by the danno3 software. The analyzer software ran on a DEC-alpha OSF 3.1 Unix system.

The danno3 programs were written for the purpose of pre-processing and processing the 1996 and 1997 data before writing it to a file in the ZEBRA format used by the Physics Analysis Workstation (PAW, part of the CERNLIB package). These programs run on Intel x86 based computers running the Linux operating system. Implemented in the danno3 package were such things as the noise reduction and gain-matching algorithms discussed below.

The CERNLIB software package produced by the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) computing group included software for simulating (GEANT) and for analyzing and plotting data (PAW). The CERNLIB software was used on several types of computers, but for this work mostly on Intel x86 based computers running the Linux operating system.
