4.2.1 Scintillator
The scintillator staves for the PV were purchased from the Bicron division of
the Saint-Goban/Norton Industrial Ceramics Corporation. The staves were made of
Bicron BC-400 organic scintillator material. General properties of the BC-400
material are listed in Table 4.1 from in the Bicron fact sheets. The most
important property is the wavelength of the light produced by the stave. Figure
4.3 shows a plot of the light output versus wavelength for BC-400 material [Bic
97]. The peak output is at a wavelength of 423 nm, but significant light output
exits in the range of 410-450 nm.
