Summary

Up to this point, the pion beta experiment has been introduced from the motivation to the experimental apparatus and approach. The design of some of the salient components like the calorimeter has been given particular attention. Other components including the support structure and the read out electronics do deserve more involved description in their own right. However, it has been the goal to provide a basic overview of the experiment with the emphasis on the design of the active target and the calorimeter. As shown in chapters 5-7, the conceptual framework of the pion beta decay experiment is being realized in the fabrication, construction, set-up and tests of the various components. The next chapter deals with the development tests, whose results provided insights into the optimization of the design, and boosted confidence in the experiment technique thus far developed.
