In this chapter, the kinematics and the decay rates for the pion decay
channels relevant to the experiment are presented. This is
necessary for the understanding of the experimental apparatus and its design
which are discussed in the subsequent chapters. The pion beta and the
decays, being the processes of interest, are
discussed thoroughly. The other decay modes which act as background processes
are introduced to varying degrees.
